Inclusive culture for learning and growth
I’ve been working at IBM for a year now, and one of the best things here is the chance to be creative through hackathons. Where one gets to pitch their unique ideas irrespective of their experience or the technology/tool that they work in. These events happen throughout the year and encourage us to come up with new ideas or solve existing problems.
Every year, there’s a hackathon called SGR happens, and one entire month is dedicated to working on our ideas and new innovative projects. The best ideas are turned into long-term projects, allowing us to learn and contribute more to our work.
What I love about this environment is that everyone is encouraged to learn and improve themselves. This inclusive culture of learning and growing together is what makes our hackathon experiences so special. It’s not just about winning; it’s about collaborating and learning from one another. Plus, the hackathons also help us build valuable skills like teamwork, problem-solving, and time management. These events create a supportive atmosphere where creativity flourishes, and everyone’s ideas are valued, regardless of their role. Being a part of these hackathons has not only enhanced my skills but also boosted my confidence in presenting my ideas to others.
In addition to the learning aspect, the hackathons foster a sense of fellowship among colleagues. Working together on these creative projects strengthens our professional relationships and creates a positive atmosphere in the workplace. It’s inspiring to see how different perspectives come together to tackle challenges, leading to innovative solutions that benefit our projects and clients. This collaborative spirit extends beyond the hackathons, positively impacting our everyday work environment.
Moreover, these hackathons serve as a platform for recognizing and nurturing talent within the company. Exceptional ideas often catch the attention of higher-ups, leading to further opportunities and career growth. This recognition motivates us to put our best foot forward and encourages healthy competition that drives us to excel in our work.
Besides participating in hackathons offers a multifaceted learning experience, contributing significantly to personal and professional growth.
